New Class 47 route objects

Post by Stevegr on Sun Mar 09, 2014 6:30 pm

As many of you might know, I am currently making new Class 47 route objects for NWM.

Currently I am up to 10 different livery's and 15 locos!

Here's a link to my latest blog on Bve4Trains.

Steve has produced a set of outstanding class 47/57 loco objects. These are a must for any UK route from 1990 up to today. Although still in WIP form, I have been fortunate enough to use them in NWM, and they really look good.

Over the 50 years that the 'Duffs' have been around they have visited everything, hauled everything, and been painted with just about everything! The livery variations are too numerous to mention, and due to changing requirements the locomotive modifications have made each one unique. There is now no longer a 'standard' looking 47.

Steve has made each loco individually, so if the No.1 end has a plain front without any route indicator box, and the No.2 end has the box, then that's how it is modelled. Different buffer styles, fuel tanks, roof layouts, are all reproduced correctly, and totally authentic.

They will not be finalised for awhile, but it will not be long before UK route developers have the opportunity to make use of them in their routes.

I would be interested in that shot Jeff.

Although currently NWM only goes up to 2010, so it's a bit later for a route object.

But it might help with an external version, what DRS does now is not only pulling a Nuclear flask around the place.

So e-mail it to stevegr(at)bve4trains.com and if I can I will use it at some point.

I have also done a bit more work on the Class 57 objects.

Excellent news for those of us who like to see randomisation used in routes!

I always used it as much as I could, although on the Underground I used it mainly for people on platforms as there aren't that many different types of passing trains ;-)

I've recently reconfigured the 47's to work in any route that's not NWM.

Chris Lees, requested if he could use one of them, so I gave it to him.

But it was the NWM config version he got so I reconfigured the 47 for his route and any others that don't have the setting NWM has.

I made some BR blue versions of the 47.

Visit my site to see some of them

If anyone else would like a 47 or two just ask.

I'll say it here Razz
Absolutely mental work Steve, and it's very much appreciated!

The link in the first post goes to the January to March blog; This has the last of it on:
https://sites.google.com/a/bve4trains.com/bve4trains/steve-s-blog-2011/steve-s-blog-may/steve-s-blog-august--to-date-2012/steve-s-blog-october---to-date-2012/steve-s-blog-january---to-date-2013/steve-s-blog-january---to-date/steve-s-blog-april---date-2014

(I think this link works, the URL is getting a little long, shoot me if not.....)

As a secondary thought, have you considered doing a documentation on the changed lighting settings in the new NWM?

Cheers

Love the blue 47 Steve, though I'd agree that it looks a little bit too dark, its spot on for Riviera Trains blue though.

It's funny actually, my thought wasn't dark so much as actually having a little too much 'pop' in the blue itself, rather than being too dark  Razz
This is the best I can do (And is what Wikipedia, that bastion of truth claims to be correct for just painted locos...):
http://encycolorpedia.com/1d334a
From there, add a little lightening and you're probably very close.

Steve's is this:
http://encycolorpedia.com/191970

Trouble is though that there is probably quite literally 101 shades of blue, and they're probably all right for one loco or another at one stage in time! This is Kenny Cockbird (47 473) on the NNR:

To me, that's edging closer to Electric blue, and definitely doesn't have the 'pop' on the blue.

Going back to hiding in the pedants corner now!

Cheers

Youre right re all the shades Chris, plus the fact that unless youve a tin of rail blue paint handy,  (which I dont anymore as the last lot went on bits of 25313 and 03162 some years back ) then its down to memory as over time we all know how paint colours can fade.

Actually Martin it's the Advenza blue darkened slightly from Tony H's photo's.

I've just noticed that the BR blue on the external large logo 56078 appears to be nearer to a recently painted loco .

As far as my memory goes...

The best looking BR blue I've seen on a 47 in photo's and in person is 47105/1693 on the G&WR, which is were most of the textures for the 47's and 57's came from.

I saw it and photographed it just before it went in to the 'shops' and the blue used had faded just like it used to.

But Chris, what I have given you might be my take on a blue 47.

Just remember that what I've given you is the config and if you want to reskin them carry on!

Technically speaking, you will never accurately match the colour. Paint and pigments reflect light, screens transmit it. Two different color models, plus there's no calibration facility within the gaming software. Which means one person's guess is probably as good as the next.

Indeed Gray, there's also numerous other things to consider.

Is the top coat on top of the correct undercoat and primer, if not it will look different to one that is properly prepared for the top coat of paint.

Then there's photo's, my mine of 47105 vary in colour in every single one despite being taken at the same time.

That's just two examples.

But if you don't like my take on the colours used Chris just change them.

Did I say the yellow on the cab fronts is wrong, I may have forgot.....
