Ballyfeckin News

Post by graymac on Fri Sep 30, 2011 8:11 pm

New picture viewer featured on the IWR sim website, screenshots page.
Includes shots of the new Waterville Port extension which is to be released very soon. This new line extends about ten km from Waterville and forms a freight run to the Container Port and express and commuter train diagrams to terminate at the Ferry, complete with large boats.

Thanks. I wanted to provide some freight diagrams and a Port seemed a good palce to end up with a container train. With the prospect of a port came the idea of a ferry terminal to go next to it.
The commuter station between the city and the port is based on the modernised stations on the Ennis to Athenry line, recently reopened.
Some new features include working crossing barriers and some animated traffic on bridges. The passenger stock has opening doors. Release date should be in the next week or two.

I think I'll be back in North sea when released but the idea is brilliant. also the speed you knock out these routes and the quality is amazing! Plus in all the trouble you have been the stand-out and we all love your tongue in cheek attitude. Great work. (Just hope it's good!) tongue

Gray, possibly a cooperation between the two of us? I will be trying to animate some stuff in my route as well, probably we can talk about the formulas? An update of FBT could be scheduled soon, too... not any extension, but optimisation and some new textures and stuff. The I will go on with the extension and animating. I have to keep up with you. @rick 1984 Thanks for that. I suppose I do knock it out at a fair rate. I sometimes work 14 hours a day on it though.
@derryck Anything we can do to help each other is entirely what it is all about here. We may not all be as technically brilliant as some of the "professors" in "the other place" but there is a spirit of co-operation and a willingness to do good work for the benefit of all.

Now, don't get the idea that I'm an animation whiz-kid. No bullshit, all I did was take the examples from the demo route on the OBVE site, which Michelle provided to enlighten us, and attempted to apply it to stuff I need. Success rate so far has been good, not everything goes as I would hope. Anything that results from me and Derryck experimenting will be available to all. I expect others will also come up with items of use in many railway situations.

The new routes are being thoroughly tested. I am grateful to spads-r-us for huge help with this job, and can promise that it will also run properly under Linux, as it's tested on that too. Won't be long now.

I'm barely getting 14 days a month in at the moment - but come November I imagine that'll change.
