I'm certain its south of a line between birmingham and kings lynn, and I don't think its eastern region either. At least 40-50 miles outside london.

Well, the station hasn't exactly features one could call prominent, has it? It is a station like probably hundreds else. Standard platform, standard footbridge, I won't even speak of rails...

Gainsborough Central?

Visited it once, just because i was passing on a Saturday, but it looks more rural in that shot- didn't realise Northern operated over there, as I've only ever seen TPE stuff at Barnetby. Running out of Northern stations with long names that would match the sign if it isn't.

Not quite. If it is where i think it is, the wide platforms (they look almost wide enough to have had lined behind them) used to have quite ornate buildings, and the footbridge had a roof.
The bridge itself can sometimes help- see one of these

and you can be farly certain you're in the north east of the country.

Well, that's Derryck out of a job! Water Orton it is, before they flattened it. Quite pleasant in those days.

Always used to wonder who did the jigsaw in the waiting room there, bearing in mind it was never unlocked.....

It looked familiar from a Video125 cabride from Bristol to Derby! Now to find something to post . . . .

Try this, very distinctive and famous box, it's in the Irish Republic.

They look so modern.. (then I googled it and realised they've been built in the 1990s - I don't see any reason for withdrawing)

Today you don't build trains for eternity. It's not economic, it blocks technical progress, especially when it comes to efficiency, security, emission reduction. Thirty, thirty-five years make sense.

They're nowhere near 30 years in service yet. I wouldn't condone scrapping them, it's wasteful and unneccessary. Yout turn to post a pic . . .

Considering such versions as the last two ones where image and clue make it possible to find the station even if you don't know it more fun, I'll continue with a similar one, that is:

(view 1)

(view 2)

The station we're looking for is a station (as opposed to a stop). It contains a former depot (hint: Betriebswerk or shortly Bw in German) and a rather busy one, and a former goods station including a hump. The station itself is regularily served by regional trains with an hourly service at work days and every two hours on weekends and holidays. The former depot is now one of the biggest railway museums in Germany, they also serve as a depot for museal trains from all over Europe when they pass nearby, making this also one of the most alive railway museums in Germany. The former goods station is partly used as sidings for infrastructure maintenance vehicles. There is a main line passing through the station, where aforementioned regional trains run regularily and IC/ICE trains are sometimes rerouted if there are bigger disturbancies on their regular route. Also there is a branch line ending in the station; it was much longer once and is only used by the museum's trains. The signal box is labelled Kf as you can see in the picture. Near the hump there is a second signal box, identical to this but mostly unmanned, it was used when there was much traffic in the goods station. I don't know for sure, but it should be labelled Kw.

@Dragon - the reason why they are being withdrawn is because they are non-standard in the short Commuter fleet - both the 2600 and 2800 are built by Tokyo Car Co., and the 2900 built by CAF have the same sliding door style as the 2600/2800
