I knew straight away you was (maybe possibly a lot of you) using google image search engine, and because i have NEVER taken a picture of a train in my life ( except inside for a seat texture) i would have no way to participate in the game Smile Hence why my turn went to the hoviskid a few goes ago! Smile

no point looking on the web for an image, when a simple drag and drop between screens will easily give the name! Smile

Drag and Drop- now that's cheating, although i don't think following up an idea with an image search is that bad, it's a bit like looking through a book you've got to see if there's a picture of the place you're thinking of, as you've had to have an inkling in the first place.

Not my old stamping ground, there's overhead string to pull the trains along. I reckon midlands, probably Warwickshire, within 35 mile radius of Birmingham.

I'll have my try, with a slightly different approach:

These are two screenshots of GoogleMaps, all credits go to them.

The key to answer the question is the structure of this station; as this isn't a station. It's two stations. They're connected, that's right, but they are railway-technically two stations, independent from each other. There's the new line with the new station on the south side and an old line with the old station and some cargo movements on the north side.

Edit: The autoroute is a key, too. It is no coincidence the new line and the motorway are that near. The new railway is one of the finest examples for a central ideology in german traffic planning, Verkehrswegebündelung. It translates roughly as "traffic routes bundling", I'm surprised though that there doesn't seem to be a similar term or idea in the english-speaking world.

Es ist veilliecht Nurnberg? At least, the only pic I could find to illustrate the Verkehrswegebündelung concept was in that location.

The only commonly used Irish compound word I could find was "Feckinawfulloadofoldbollix", which is a technical term often applied to the television output of state broadcaster, RTE.

Nah it isn't Nuernberg. Also Nuernberg wouldn't be in my eyes an example for that concept. The concept is to bundle streets and railway lines so as to acoustically pollute as little space as possible. It also eases construction, maintenance, rescue operations etc. A problem though; it was noticed many car drivers of "sporty" cars feel dishonoured when a train overtakes them and they try to catch up, going 300km/h on a full autoroute... Now there is sight protection installed wherever there is a longer piece of parallel street and rail, which prevents this effect. That even isn't many places, as although the routes are parallel, railway and street have obviously vastly different routing criteria (steepness, radius etc.) leading to the railway line being often on different height and quite distant every now and then.

Oh and yes, the 300km/h are a clue. Looking up you'll find there are not that many routes for 300km/h in Germany (simply doesn't make sense in a country that densly populated, for the future we even plan with 250km/h max mostly; we can't go on straight from Berlin to Stuttgart with no stop inbetween like the french between Paris and Marseille) so you can simply scroll along in GoogleMaps Wink
