Have I scared everyone off?!

Post by pedned on Sat Dec 10, 2011 4:30 pm

It seems to me like this place is like a Ghost Town! Have I scared everyone away with my return?! Sad

*Brushes away the tumbleweed, and blows away some dust, and reaches for the VHS player* http://youtu.be/1WhhSBgd3KI

We need some conversation started here!

Sod Christmas, it's not like it's fun... Spend far too much money, on people you don't even like all too much. And then it comes to the day and you get crap presents that you dont want, or dont like, or which will sit a cupboard for years collecting dust, because you have no use for it...
Oh and then there's the eating until you wish you could be sick... and the crap repeats of the same movies every year on tv...

And since when, does everyone give each other presents, just because some guy, who it hasn't even been proven ever lived, was supposedly born on that day a couple of thousand years ago... confused

Well, as far as the commercialisation of Christmas goes, it isn't fun. But long before the Christian churches hijacked the old pagan winter solstice ceremonies, there was always sone kind of knees-up at this seasonal point in time. Neolithic clocks like Newgrange and Stonehenge measured the passage of the days until the point where the darkness stopped and the light returned. Superstition dictated that sacrifices were made and the Gods thanked, or at least pacified. Your Jesus (if you're a Christian) was a dissident Jew in the time after the Romans occupied Judea. Christians believe in the divinity of Jesus and therefore their celebrations are centred around that. Pagans will still mark the solstice in their own way. Jews celebrate Hannukah, which is to mark the re-dedication of the second temple. So, different faiths, different meanings. But the modern spendfest is, I agree, total producto del tracto digestivo. And, especially for atheists, apostates, and infidels, it can be a bit grim. 'Specially if the wife's mother turns up. Positive

**producto del tracto digestivo. What smart sod put that in? It isn't even proper latin. I did not say that. I use the tried and trusted Anglo-Irish word "Sierra Hotel India Tango Echo" (or S. H. I. T. E. ) and I thank you NOT to censor it.
