Class 37 coal train

Post by jorgecerezo on Thu Jan 26, 2017 5:17 pm

Hello,

How many loaded coal hoppers does a Class 37 normally pull? I want to modify the existing Class 37 416 to simulate a loaded coal train for use in Clarendon route.

Thanks,

Jorge

When I saw your enquiry, I guessed around a maximum of 30 32 ton HAA hoppers, based on my experience watching Class 37 merry-go-round trains loading at various Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire collieries. According to Wikipedia, they operated 32 ton HAA air-braked hoppers, usually numbering between 20 and 30 wagons. So I think you could say a maximum of 30 loaded vehicles.

Is 32 ton the tare weight?

I believe the tare weight was around 13 1/2 tons and that 32 tons referred to its payload but there were variants which would determine gross laden weight.
