celtictrainsim new website

Post by graymac on Tue Dec 13, 2016 11:48 am

It's time for the site to be overhauled COMPLETELY. A redesign to be put in place by early Jan (at the latest - maybe sooner) will offer clearer information and ALL cts route & train downloads will be compliant with the v1.5 program "Package Management" facility. A sneak peek of part of the trains page taking shape . . .

As a result of much burning of "midnight oil" and a hard day "at the coalface" the new site is now active - go to the usual place, celtictrainsim.com to see for yourselves.

Oh heck Razz

Will have to try and push another release as opposed to nightly build tomorrow, in order to correct the most recent set of problems found.
Been meaning to do that for days, but I've involved with other stuff.

Only minor note I'd make, is that the white font on Enter Site is a little hard to read on this laptop monitor.
You might want to consider changing the font color or adding a border to the text?

Yes, a bit more contrast on the link wouldn't hurt. You may not have noticed that the "splash" page automatically redirects to the home page after a few seconds anyway. I think I made it about 15 secs, just time to look at the pretty pictures!! Very Happy

It took me about 24 hours of actual work (done between sunday and weds) to build the site from base up (it's a total replacement item rather than piecemeal editing). One of the main points of the design brief was to make the OpenBVE project site a prominent factor, as the focus for all matters on the program side of the activity. Especially the "Package Management" feature, which has allowed be to dump a skipful of old instruction *how to" shite, old resource links, and ancient site links off my new site.

Thanks! Not as fast as I used to be - since the doctor made me slow down a bit at the start of the year LMAO!

I don't know how many have this wee gizmo -
I had to replace my computer this summer and the new one has this "snipping tool" already installed. It's saved me a lot of time harvesting stuff off the screen and really helps productivity in all areas. In many instances it's proved better than the old faithful "Ctrl+Alt+PrtScr" shortcut, which had to be pasted into a separate app to save it.

You did seem to get this done fast but maybe it seemed that way as I have been rather busy lately. I also like the package format that has been added which I have found useful in testing my route on my other machine. Many thanks to Chris for all this work on the program. Smile The enter text is now much easier to read.

The snipping tool I have been using for years and has been very useful. It comes standard with windows and still is in Windows 10 also.

Seconded!!!  It looks like progress is finally being made after a period of flat-lining with the program.
I hope the other providers will package their stuff this way. Before, there were too many different ways to pack files, some stuff came in odd configurations and could be quite confusing to instal properly.
It's always been the weakest link for users and user un-friendly installs have put a lot of people off in the past.
