Western engine instructions error (split by: Quork; split from: openBVE Packages)

You have a little mistake in your driving instructions. You have written: "Press the Insert key to turn on the battery and fuel pump isolating switches." However pressing Insert doesn't do anything however Home does. Home seems to be right because looking at your plugin you have this key assigned to security key B1 (home key). Also you might want to mention when moving the train to release the brakes. Apart from that I was able to setup and drive the loco.

You're entirely right, fixed....

Something else missing from the instructions at the minute:
It's entirely possible to overheat one or both engines, or for that matter the transmission. Should take ~15 mins of constant running at absolute max power to overheat one/ both engines & ~20 mins to overheat the transmission.
Notes:
Below 1,000rpm - Cools, rate of cooling is dependant on speed, engine status and some other bits.
1,000rpm - 1,200rpm - Stable temperature
Above 1,200rpm - Heats

Overheating one or more engines:
The 'High Oil Temp' and 'High Water Temp' lights will activate on the secondman's cluster.

Overheating transmission:
The 'High Trans Temp' light will activate on the secondman's cluster, along with the high engine temp lights if appropriate.

The power cutoff will automatically reset once power returns to safe levels.

At some stage I'm planning to implement some more advanced faults into the plugin (Engine failures, the tooth on tooth button etc.), but not just at present.

Brakes:
I was rather hoping that this would be an automatic reaction from the driver Razz
Improving the modelling of brake systems in the wider sim is on my list of things to deal with (Allowing the activation/ de-activation of compressors manually, unbraked vehicles etc.) but that's heading a little out of scope here.

Cheers

I think it'd be best to write the function keys (B1, A1 etc.) first in instructions, while adding what they default to later in brackets. e.g. "Battery switch: B1 (defaults to Home)". Otherwise it'll be quite a mess to understand new instructions if you have a changed key configuration (e.g. on laptops).

That reminds me Razz

Several months ago, I implemented a set of traction specific keys for use with plugins:
Code:
;;Common
WIPER_SPEED_UP = Increases the speed of the windscreen wipers
WIPER_SPEED_DOWN = Decreases the speed of the windscreen wipers
FILL_FUEL = Fills fuel
HEADLIGHTS = Toggles the train headlights
;;Steam engine
LIVE_STEAM_INJECTOR = Activates or deactivates the live steam injector
EXHAUST_STEAM_INJECTOR = Activates or deactivates the exhaust steam injector
INCREASE_CUTOFF = Increases the cutoff
DECREASE_CUTOFF = Decreases the cutoff
BLOWERS = Activates or deactivates the blowers
;;Diesel engine
ENGINE_START = Starts the engine
ENGINE_STOP = Stops the engine
GEAR_UP = Shifts up a gear in a train fitted with a gearbox
GEAR_DOWN = Shifts down a gear in a train fitted with a gearbox
;;Electric engine
RAISE_PANTOGRAPH = Raises the pantograph
LOWER_PANTOGRAPH = Lowers the pantograph
MAIN_BREAKER = Toggles the main breaker

I'll convert BVEC_ATS & the Western to the relevant ones from this list over the next couple of days.
Will also need to write the documentation for them......

It'll still use a bunch of the older non-specific keys for specialized stuff, but the aim of implementing these was to provide a common control configuration for all plugins/ trains, rather than the mess we've got at the minute.
Will also have to figure out some default assignments for them. (The MSTS / KRS control lists are probably a good starting point, will have to look them up.....)

Cheers
