Built another 2 sets of townhouses beside the first station along with rest of the street lamps on this end of the street using two different types. This side is now starting to take shape with only one more house needed to be built along the road next to the station which will bring it up to the level crossing after the station. Very Happy

After that it will be the houses next to the station that are visible but further away and to finish off the forest which will present also after the level crossing on the right side. There are also some houses at the very start of the route needed to be added but I will not sure yet if I will do that next.

Thanks, it's good to see interest in this because this will probably be the first route from the state of Queensland, Australia. I have built the final house needed beside the road next to the first station. I have also started adding houses and trees that are visible but further away. So far I have completed one block at the end of the street near the level crossing which is after the station.

Work continues on adding details further away on the right hand side at the first station with 200m of this now complete from the station platform up to the level crossing. I added some more townhouses using 2 new townhouses I made and some more trees. Next will be to continue to add details (houses and trees) to the rest of the right hand side before the station next to the carpark.

I have also taken some photos of train for train objects in the future when I made a rare trip into the city which made it easier to get good images than on the trips I usually make. It was sunny at the time so some of images I might not be able to use. I do have another rare trip coming up that will present another good opportunity. Though there are plenty of online images available also.

I have continued to work on the road side on the right side of the station along with a bit of a break from this work. I am quite pleased with how my route is looking even though I have only completed a very short section but quite detailed as it is in real life.  I have a good variety of textures with many derived from online images especially as at the beginning I was unsure on how I would go with getting textures.

Another block is complete which is about 80 m of the route next to the carpark before the start of the railway. I have built another 3 houses for this block along with adding trees and also made improvement to 3 houses that had already been made which were the first houses I built. I have taken some more images of trains and I now have a large proportion of the images need for passing/train objects for later.

I have complete another block of 80 m in length on the right hand side of the first station. 415m of first 650m (up to the level crossing) is now done on the right hand side with the other side of the station by the main road finished previously. I have made another 4 houses and made improvements to 3 others previously built which are the ones closest the road beside the station. Some more street lamps and trees have been added to this block also. Now that just leaves the remaining 235m at the very start of the route behind the far end of the carpark to do with some more trees and houses.

It's been too long since the last update on this project but works is continuing on the route. I have now completed a section of the next block along the side street on the right hand side. This is over a route length of 40m along the side street which runs along the right hand side of the route and which joins up at the level crossing after the station. 3 new houses plus trees, bushes and street lights have been added in this area on the other side of the side street which comes off the side street that runs along the right hand of the route. This is adjacent to the far end of the station carpark and I am slowly reaching the start of the route.

The road at the very start of the route that goes up a hill has been straightened to fit better with the houses added and this looks much better. No promises of course but it getting closer to finishing the start of the route and in the next few months I think it might be finished. I expect progress after the first station to be a bit quicker than the current area.

Also the dynamic lighting feature is now used in this route with very good results. Many thanks to Chris for this addition to the program. I have set it up to simulate sunny conditions using the directional light and varying ambient lighting depending on the time of day. A sun chart for my location was used to do this as accurately as possible. It did take quite a lot of trial and error but it will allow me to produce runs at different times of the day with the correct lighting. And as part of this to make producing new runs easier I have used the $Include directive to separate the common route code from the route file. I had already done this earlier to the structure list. I also produced a second route which is a express service that doesn't carry passengers run to test this out and this works well. Note that all express trains on this route won't carry passengers. I will also need to alter some objects that use "AddFace2" because the directional light doesn't work correctly with those objects. This is only an issue on my oldest objects as now I only use "AddFace" and these are rendered correctly.

It's looking like a nice, calm neighborhood, I like what you have created there. :-) I would consider improving the road textures.

Thanks. Good to hear that. It's based on the my neighborhood which is one of the quieter parts of Brisbane. I been here a long time but it been getting busier with surrounding development happening over the years. Crossing the road isn't what it use to be but nothing like the city. Rolling Eyes The large carpark on this project is just as big in real life being one of the largest around and a lot of people use the station in peak times.

Regarding the road the fuzziness is the consequence of using a very low res texture. In what way are you thinking the road need work? This texture was made in paint and wasn't from a image. I did this because the station carpark and road was done as several large textures. Splitting this into different faces with different shapes would be more trouble that it is worth. Away from the carpark for side streets I did it the same for consistency. If I  change the road textures it might look odd where it joins up with the carpark.

Thanks for the feedback and it is most welcome as it helps me to produce something to be enjoyed.

Hello Matt,
i might be able to help you with the road, if you want. I wil take a plain road texture and add the lanes in Photoshop (you can work with opacity there, so it looks authentic). That way, I can produce the carpark and the driveway from the same texture and they will fit each other well. If you look at the wooded railway crossing in my new station, the yellow paint on it is done the same way. Let me know. Smile

Yes we might give that a try. But I don't think it would work well with the carpark because they are large textures but given they are placed over a large area they end up being in low resolution. The road and carpark are made by hand in paint and not derived from images. Let me know if you need a copy of these textures for this work. Thanks for this offer, it's very kind of you.

That's up to you, I can take a look. Send them to Derryck-at-seznam.cz
You say the texures are large, but spread over a large area and hence looking blurry. Do you not repeat the texture on the large face?

I will send you a copy of the relevant objects/textures. These carpark textures are only used once because each texture is made specially for that area. Due to the design of the carpark and its complexity it cannot to be tiled a few times as each section of the carpark is different. I have done this way to not overdo it performance wise with reasonable quality. However the smaller roads could easily be improved with a higher resolution texture. This should become apparent when you take a look. Thanks once again for your assistance.

So, after taking a look I think it would be quite a difficult job to redo all the textures from a scratch. This is due to the way they are used. They are not bad anyway, so I would stick to them for the time being.
Hope you got my email, Matt, sent it twice already. Maybe check your spam folder...?

Thanks very much for this. I think my method is reasonable for the complexity and design of these areas. I will probably stick with this for future roads. With the email I didn't received any of them twice from you. No email from you was in the spam folder. The last I received from you was 5:54 UTC 19/4 and last one I sent you in reply to that was at 6:56 UTC time on 19/4.

I am currently working on the next house which is getting close to being finished at the very start of the route (on the road that goes up the hill).

I have now completed that house at the start of the route near the very far end of the carpark of the first station. There was quite a lot of details for this house. The roof was quite hard to get right due to its complex shape and was probably the second hardest of all of the roofs built so far. Minor adjustments in positioning of the road and kerbs were also made improving the joins between the textures. As part of the positioning of the house the road and footpaths at the start of the route plus how it connects to the road up the hill near the carpark was moved. Extra footpaths, a brick wall, some trees, a street light and power poles were added to this area. Power to this part of this suburb is above ground and therefore the presence of the power poles. Most of this suburb has underground power so only some of the area around the first station needs the power poles.
