Platform Nameboard Generator: A Replacement

Post by leezer3 on Sun Jul 20, 2014 10:43 pm

So, another of the 'withdrawn' utilities was a Platform Nameboard generator.
Whilst I never personally used this particular addon, I've been busy creating a replacement of this highly useful addon to make developer's lives easier.

Version 1 is supplied with a complete set of BR Totems, and a generic white double-arrow nameboard. (Please pass any public domain textures to me, and I can add them to the archive)

Custom textures with a resolution of 512 x 128 pixels are supported via the 'Choose Your Own Texture' button.
The transparent color is set at pure blue (0,0,255)

Source Code:

The license for this is the BSD license.

Adding Custom Textures to the Default List:
The default list of textures & descriptions is stored in textures.ini
Please see this file for details on how to add a custom texture to the default list.

Cheers

On a more pleasant note, I've made a few tweaks, and this is v1.01 of NameGen:
Changes:
* Transparency is used in the preview. Small and cosmetic, but still Razz
* Font color picker dialog. (Should have been there in the first place, the BR White sign doesn't work without it)
* Selectable single/ double side signs, with custom rear textures supported via textures.ini

As above, all source code for my stuff is available to view any time you want.
As it's licenced as the BSD 2-Clause, if you wish to take it, recompile to include your choice of headers and rebrand, please do so with my blessing-
This is true *open-source* software that you can do with as you like.

To be clear, the nameboard generator has nothing specifically to do with TrackGen, and none of Nil's code, the only real similarity is both of them being C# Winforms applications to produce railway structures.
I wrote this one absolutely from scratch Smile

Incidentally, someone who I presume is BVE Colorado is still at it (See the tail of my most recent objects thread), not that I'm much bothered- I don't build this stuff for the credits.

Version 1.02
Changes:
* Cosmetic tweaks
* Added an option to choose the legs type.
* Size is autofilled with a sensible value for your selected sign type.
* New sign types:
1. SR / BR(S) 'Target' type signs. Junction and standard provided.
2. GWR/ SR Wooden signs
3. Modern LU signs. Enamel is on the list of things to find a texture for, and I suppose I probably ought to add a hanging option to the legs...

After reviewing the provided source code, documentation and explanation provided by Chris Lees, I am persuaded the offered software is entirely ethical and legal, as it does not infringe copyrights of anyone else. This software has not been judged a case of intellectual property theft as defined in Copyright Designs and Patents Act, 1988. It must therefore be stated that Mr Course's opinion is not the opinion of the owners and management of BVE WorldWide and Chris Lees is welcome to post updates about the software development within the boundaries of this forum.
