I imagine the trains will have to go through full body scanners upon emerging into Alaskan territory and all the passengers then being subjected to propaganda announcements from Sarah Palin, who would of course be riding shotgun..... lol!

I don't think i'd imagine that happening, mind you, it would take a whole day for a train to get across the Atlantic, whereas, you could've flown to NY from Heathrow and back by the time you arrive! Very Happy

An approximation based on a 125mph train travelling 3000 miles for 24 hours. No railway currently has this scenario on offer.
The terrain and environmental conditions encountered on a journey between Moscow and the US is awesome and formidable, a lot of it quite unfriendly. (rather like Sarah Palin). It is unlikely to be a high speed line like the TGV as it will be used for freight haulage, which is the main commercial point of it.
Moscow is closer to New York via the Atlantic. The distance by air, via Anchorage, Alaska would be about 7,750 miles. The railway woul certainly be longer, and once into Canada and the USA would be using existing rail routes.
Fastest estimate, IMO, looking at 5-6 days minimum. Based on (air mileage) +20% / v=50mph you would get a figure of 7.7days. All assumptions based on train running 24/7 and no major stops.

Were we meant to be serious? Embarassed

They're proposing an undersea tunnel through a geologically unstable area skirting the northern edge of the Pacific Ring of Fire and through the active volcanic regions of Alaska, Washington State and Oregon and they think this is a good plan?

Does the name "Mount Saint Helens" ring any alarm bells?

I think there might be more useful and/or stable ways of investing money, but since I don't have the money, it is just an opinion... Very Happy

With all those polar bears on the line, and the wolves howling, what if it were the wrong kind of snow and your train got stuck? Twisted Evil

Probably right, to a polar bear, every kind of food is nice and delicious. Laughing
Just thinking about the technical backstage... there would have to be several train depots along the way, no doubt... but would you like to work there? jocolor

Considering we have all been into the depths of Mordor and tangled with the Fire Dragon who lives there and felt the lash of her acid tongue upon our backs while she issues .donotspeakunlessauthorised commands, we could handle polar bears and wolves quite easily. Twisted Evil
